Alexis gave me a jar.
The jar was filled with journal prompt ideas.
I took a second journal prompt idea.
This is what the journal prompt idea said:

"What is your favorite pastime?"

beacon.

I came home from church early today.

I've lived in Utah for 7 7/12 years now. It was a hard move for my whole family; we had lived in California since most of the family was born, and leaving California, let alone our neighborhood and ward we were moving from, was very emotional.

yarn.

Sorry, guys. I've been trying to make this a weekly diddy, but I haven't really had much to talk about. Let's see what I can do.

Didn't you hear? The phrase "It's on like Donkey Kong" was trademarked by Nintendo. So now we oughta say, "It's on like Donkey Kong®", however you'd say that...

potential.

Sadly, I have to part with my iPad soon.

The guy who let my dad use it (who, in turn, passed it onto me,) is requesting it back. My dad got the iPad to help with his work, but since he no longer works for that company, we have to give the iPad back.

closet.

I've been waiting for something to pop up to write about, and something just did. Here we go people, cuz I'm about to lay on a very touchy subject: bi and homosexuality.

I guess I don't have much to say about it. I'll just share my beliefs and stuff.

10.31.2010

treat.

So...this weekend was an extremely long one. For me, anyway. But let me show you the highlight of it:

10.26.2010

snapshot.

Hello again. Right now I'm sitting on another leather chair in a dimly lit room, only this time it is a couch and I am about to watch the recently released film Robin Hood.

Also, I am, again, running into this blog head-on with nothing particular to say.

First, a sad tale in my life...

10.24.2010

giggles.

So Micah and I were having fun the other night on TubeDubber, a website where you choose a video, and then replace the sound with the sound from a different video. I'm sure I'll come up with strange mixtures in the future, but for now, enjoy the ones that Micah and I came up with so far:

10.21.2010

obsess.

Ok, before we jump into this, let me first give you a zing of the energy I have right now.

We all know and love the show Mythbusters. In this video, Adam Savage talks about his obsession. Watch the whole thing.

10.19.2010

scatter.

I sit here in a dark room in a large leather sofa underneath a table lamp. A pretty good setting for some thoughts.

What to think, though...?

Ok, I have one.

There are two kinds of friends. One kind are those that when you get back together from being apart for a long time, it's a little awkward. And the other kind of friend is the kind that no matter how long or how far apart you are, being together is as natural as if you had only seen each other yesterday. I'm trying to make encounters with the first kind of friend less awkward, but I'm not exactly sure how. Or is that a universal problem that can nearly never be avoided? I'm not too worried about the second type of friendship, of course. Those are the friendships I will always cherish the most.

10.17.2010

distant.

This post is dedicated to movies. Particularly, movies by a director that started incredibly small, but that I know will one day be gigantic.

I have a separate taste of movies. Sure, my inner guy always loves to go see something with epic explosions, nail-biting mysteries, "that one really dirty but extremely hilarious" movie, or the occasional fantasy orgy of visual effects. There will always be, however, one genre that will stay dear to my heart. And that is the concept of young love.

10.13.2010

frozen.

This will be a life update, I guess. I figured I should update my blog more, but there are so many features I'm missing out on, like video embedding and photo-posting. iPad issues. Don't ask.

So my season at Trellis Cafe ended. I am currently jobless. I have applied to Costco, Robert's and Maceys so far. A guy in my ward emailed me an application for a business that is actively looking for future missionaries to help out, so that one sounds very promising. The business produces silicon electronics covers. You know the kind.

10.02.2010

dungeons.

I haven't been playing RPGs for a long time. I think my first one was Final Fantasy X, which I played 3 years ago. Back then, I would have never thought I would be sucked into what I'm doing now.

9.28.2010

better.

Talents. Everyone has them. A talent to write amazing music. A talent to sculpt a human from a marble prism. A talent to surgically repair a heart. A talent to understand how electricity works. A talent to understand how people think. There are an infinite number of talents out there; some come naturally, others have to be obtained through effort.

My question, then, is...what are my talents?

It seems to me that...everyone in the world is exceptionally good at something. Or at least, much better than your average person. There is always one naturally-given talent people have that a simply second nature to them. I'm really wondering what mine are...

Have I not yet discovered it?

Is this all there is to me?

I honestly hope that I will be able to find out soon... I may just be stuck to focusing on talents that are really not talents at all: merely actions I can do better than the average person. I only think I'm good at them. I mean, sure, there will always be someone who can do something better out there. There ALWAYS will be someone better. I've known that all my life. But I want to at least be up there with one talent...just...what is it?

9.21.2010

ants.

So I thought now would be a good life update.

My job working at Trellis Cafe is coming to a close. The people I work with are really cool; it's kinda sad I won't see them again. But people come and go, right? At least I had some good memories.

The current problem is that once this job ends, I don't have another one to go to. I gotta do some major job-searching. My mom recommended the LDS Job Search place down by DI, so I think I'll try that.

9.20.2010

growing.

I recently had a discussion with my friend about growing up, and I wanted to put it on the table for more opinions. What happened between my Sophomore year and high school graduation was a maturation. As you know, for me, it was a heart-breaking, nature-creating truth-realizing few years for me, and sadly, almost all of my maturity was not from self-realization. Many different people, young and old, taught me through my mistakes how a grown up was meant to act. Now I'm not the kind of person that supports normalcy, at least in a pop-cultural way, but I have a firm belief that when it comes to human interaction, a middle ground must exist. The success of an individual through business and intimate relations, whether it be a client or a friend, can only be obtained by human interaction. We live in a world with more than 6 billion people. 6,000,000,000. How many of those people are different from the other? Every single one. How, then, can an enterprise be established, or a friendship be forged, without the ability to begin on a middle ground? I think growing up helps us know just how to act on that middle ground.

9.19.2010

introductions.

Hello, greetings, bonjour, hola, konichiwa, aloha, yo, bonjourno, aloha, anything to wave my hand in your face and say: my name is Matt Staib, and this is my blog.

I guess you can consider this my second online journal, my first being here, but this one will focus more on my life and ideas more than just my nerd opinions over at the other one. I'll still share nerd ideas over here, though.
